Caleb Dodson Counseling

Fees

I meet with individuals for an introductory 50-minute visit to determine if we're a good fit. If at the end of that time, you choose not to continue, its free.

I provide a sliding scale for those who want to come 2x or more a week, and on a case-by-case basis.

Payment

I accept cash, checks, PayPal, Venmo, and Zelle.

Using Your Insurance

I am an out-of-network provider. Check with your insurance regarding your out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits. Reimbursements are typically delivered within 2+ weeks of submission once your deductible has been met.

How often do we meet?

Growth does not successfully progress unless we meet regularly. For this reason, I have a policy that we meet at least weekly.

Where do we meet?

I see folks in Midtown Manhattan - Madison Square Park and via Zoom.

What’s my philosophy?

I work from a depth therapy perspective because I believe cognitive and behavioral approaches do not fully get at the heart of what it means to be a person. My work is informed by Humanistic, Existential, and Contemporary Psychoanalytic traditions, but therapy is ultimately less about theory than it is about relationship. Much of what troubles us lives within our relationships, our histories, our emotional lives, and our attempts to make sense of being alive. Rather than focusing solely on symptom relief or insight, I view therapy as an opportunity to have a new experience with another person—one that can gradually reshape how you understand yourself, relate to others, and move through the world. I often say that I do “the Caleb thing,” because it is through who we are as people, rather than a curated image or technique, that the most meaningful work takes place.

What is Psychotherapy?

Most folks feel a sense of disconnection, as if they’re not part of their own internal world. At its most fundamental basis, psychotherapy is a conversation between two people and an ensuing experience that, over time, makes you feel more connected to yourself - that is, your moment-to-moment lived experience of life. This is the process of reconnecting with ourselves after we were once disconnected. Psychotherapy finds its depth and power in the spontaneity, transparency, and consistency of the two of us working together to understand where you’re coming from, where you’re headed, and what you’re experiencing here and now. From this place of connection to your-self, your moment-to-moment lived experience, you begin to know how to live your life in a more full-filling direction.

What’s the goal?

The goal is new experiences, not ‘symptom reduction’. We'll inevitably grow when we focus on lived, embodied experiences and talk about them. Experience leads us back to you, which will inevitably bring ‘symptom’ reduction. It's about getting back into a relationship with you.
